The North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF) was established as a statewide foundation in 1988 by leading philanthropists who envisioned a pool of dedicated endowment funds that would provide for the safety and growth of North Carolina charitable nonprofit institutions and organizations in perpetuity. The NCCF seeks gifts from individuals, corporations, organizations, and other foundations to ensure the financial security of our State’s nonprofits.
The NCCF operates at a grass-roots level through a network of affiliates active in 64 counties across the state. Our affiliates promote local solutions to local problems by working within their communities to establish their own unrestricted endowment funds to support a broad range of changing charitable needs in their communities including human services, education, health, arts, religion, civic affairs, and the conservation of historical, cultural, and environmental resources.
In addition to these unrestricted funds, the Foundation makes grants from designated, donor-advised, and scholarship funds.
The NCCF enables donors of all means and experience to establish endowments without the burden of complicated investment, management, and administrative fees. We make giving easy by providing research on charitable needs, a wide range of options for establishing funds, high quality investment management, professional advice on giving options and their tax consequences, regular audit and reporting mechanisms, involvement in grant distribution and donor recognition.
Over 650 dedicated volunteers, nearly 3,500 annual donors, 25 staff members, and a 38-member board of directors have made the NCCF one of our State’s leading philanthropic institutions. Our constituents are served by a professional development and administrative staff operating from eight strategically located offices across the state.
The North Carolina Community Foundation is a member of the Council on Foundations, the North Carolina Association of Community Foundations, and the North Carolina Network of Grantmakers.
