The North Carolina Community Foundation acts as a service agency for donors, helping you achieve your charitable purpose in your lifetime and beyond. We offer numerous benefits, some of which are not available through direct personal giving or through private foundations.

Stewardship. The Foundation solicits and mobilizes community and philanthropic assets to promote statewide endowments, and acts as a prudent manager of assets created by specific gifts and bequests.

Choice. You are free to determine the charitable purpose for which gifts are to be used, or you may entrust all of part of that decision to the Board of Directors as they evaluate changing community needs.

Permanence. Your gift will continue to provide permanent benefits to the community, under the watchful eye of the Foundation. If you establish a fund and someday the need for the fund passes, our board will find the cause that most nearly matches your original intent.

Tax Benefits. For tax purposes, your gift or bequest will qualify for maximum charitable gift deductibility.

Security. You are guaranteed careful stewardship and management by the Foundation’s board, professional staff, and highly qualified financial professionals. Each fund is governed by its own legal agreement.

Public Accountability. As a publicly supported community foundation, we guarantee that all funds will be used in the public interest. Regular reports from charitable recipients are requested. An independent, professional audit of the Foundation is performed annually, and all grants are publicly disclosed by our board of directors.

Commemoration. You give a fund your name, memorialize or honor another person or draw attention to a charitable field by using its name.

Simplicity & Convenience. You make a gift with ease and are then relieved of the burden of managing those funds. The Foundation handles all necessary legal, administrative, accounting, and communication functions. It can take less than an hour to create a fund with us.

Value. Significant resources are required to operate a community foundation. Because we are independently endowed, the NCCF can offer valuable services for a modest charge.

There are no set-up fees to establish a fund at the North Carolina Community Foundation. The only cost to you is a nominal fee calculated according to the average fund balance.
