Wake County Women’s Network Awards First Grants Group is Program of North Carolina Community Foundation

The Women’s Network – Connecting for Change has announced its first grants, according to Jennifer Tolle Whiteside, president and CEO of the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF).

Grants totaling $65,000 were awarded to Learning Together for its BEST Kidz Program; and the Women’s Center of Wake County for its SHAPE Program. Each recipient received $32,500.

“We had a number of deserving applicants, and the grants committee did an outstanding job of carefully reviewing proposals and conducting their due diligence to select our first recipients,” Tolle Whiteside said.

The Women’s Network is a new NCCF program designed to maximize women’s leadership in philanthropy by engaging and educating its membership, increasing charitable contributions and strengthening the Wake County community through the impact of collective giving. The NCCF partners with NCGives on the women’s giving initiative in Wake County and in other areas throughout the state.

Members of Wake County’s Women’s Network agree to contribute $1,200 annually for five years to fund an endowment to support Wake County needs.

Nearly 70 Wake County women have joined the group. For information about joining or applying for a 2008 grant, contact Carrie Gray, NCCF regional associate, at cgray@nccommunityfoundation.org.
