The board of directors of the Northern Albemarle Community Foundation announces 2006 awards from its Community Fund, according to Ronald O. Turlington, board president.

This year’s nonprofit recipients include:

  • Albemarle Hopeline: $1200 to expand services to children from families of domestic violence at the Hopeline shelter.
  • Food Bank of the Albemarle: $2500 to defray rising cost of fuel and food delivery to local pantries
  • Greater American Red Cross: $1500 to purchase new DVD training materials in CPR/First Aid
  • Northeastern Community Development Corporation: $2000 to provide training, education, and other services to support Latinos in Northeastern North Carolina
  • Port Discover: $1800 to develop and support the ongoing weekend science program at the new Northeastern North Carolina’s Center for Hands-on Science.
  • Elizabeth City State University: $1,000 to help initiate a string outreach program in area elementary schools involving a String Quartet from ECSU.

Ron Turlington, president, thanked the community for support of the Northern Albemarle Community Foundation. “These grants are important to our community,” he said. “Many critical programs would not be possible without the generosity of many individuals and organizations that have supported the Northern Albemarle Community Fund.”

The Northern Albemarle Community Foundation is an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF). The Community Fund was established to help support local charitable needs through annual grants.
Tax-deductible contributions can be made by any organization or individual who wishes to increase the principal of the Community Fund, which is managed and allocated for the benefit of Camden, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans Counties. Contributions should be made payable to the Northern Albemarle Community Fund and mailed to North Carolina Community Foundation, Northeast Region Office, The Harbinger Center, Suite 4, Point Harbor, NC 27964.
Donors also can establish designated funds for their own causes with an investment of at least $5,000.
