2008 Grants Awarded

The Wilkes County Community Foundation awarded $10,000.00 in grants to local non-profit organizations in 2007. The recipients of grants from the Wilkes County Unrestricted Endowment Fund were:

In addition to these grants, the Foundation distributed $19,160.00 from donor-advised, designated, and scholarship funds to benefit other programs in the Wilkes County area.

Youth Projects in Wilkes County receive $5,000 in grants

The Youth Philanthropy Board of the Wilkes Community Foundation announces grant awards to six local groups totaling $5,000 for youth-led projects in Wilkes County. Proposals were sought for projects that have a positive impact on youth in Wilkes County, carried out by youth between the ages of 13-18 years old and be completed by April 1. The groups, award amounts and projects are:

  • West Wilkes Football, $500 for Sharing Character Education With West Middle School
  • Wilkes Playmakers, $1,000 to purchase flying trusses/harnesses for the Learning to Fly youth workshop for “Peter Pan-The Musical
  • East Wilkes FFA, $500, to purchase Mirafount system for the Water Works Project
  • West Wilkes High School Photo-Journalism Class, $1,250 for equipment for the In Focus Project
  • The New Century Scholars Students of Communities In Schools, $1,650 for painting project at the Skyview Housing After School Center and book drive
  • The Arts at School at East Wilkes High School, $100 for a campus beautification project.

The 13-member Youth Philanthropy Board of the Wilkes Community Foundation was established during the summer and is comprised of students from each of the county high schools. The group recently named themselves T3LC, which stands for Time, Talent, Treasure Leading to Change. With assistance of Wilkes County Schools, the students meet monthly to learn about philanthropy through a collaborative program of NCGives, the Wilkes affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation and Leading To Change. Grant funds are made possible through an anonymous donor.


2006 Grants Awarded

The Wilkes Community Foundation awarded $3,000.00 in grants to local non-profit organizations in 2005. The recipients of grants from the Wilkes County Unrestricted Endowment Fund were:

The Wilkes Community Foundation awarded $1,300.00 in grants to local non-profit organizations in 2005. The recipients of grants from Wilkes County Unrestricted Endowment Fund were:

The Wilkes County Community Foundation awarded $900 in grants to local nonprofit organizations in 2004. The recipients of grants from the Wilkes County Unrestricted Endowment Fund were:
