TWO FROM ROBESON COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION HONORED

The board of directors of the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF) announces that the Lewis R. Holding Philanthropic Leadership Award for 2006 has been given to James F. Byrne and Horace E. Stacy Jr., according to Ron Scheeler, chairman of the board.
The two were cited at the NCCF board meeting last week in Raleigh for their instrumental leadership in developing and launching the new Robeson County Community Foundation (RCCF), which was officially chartered in December 2005.

Stacy is considered one of the prime movers behind the initial push to establish a local foundation in Robeson County, according to Beth Boney Jenkins, the NCCF’s Southeastern Regional Associate. “His knowledge, professional acumen and enthusiasm leant credibility to the organizational effort, and his personal generosity enabled the establishment of the first unrestricted fund,” she said.

Byrne’s acceptance of the board presidency ensured that Stacy’s creative organizational efforts would flourish, Jenkins said. Byrne is credited with building a board that truly represents Robeson County and has invested a great deal of time and energy into educating the group and encouraging a sense of teamwork. “With determination and great personal charm, he has molded a board of wide-ranging interests into a cohesive force for charitable causes in Robeson County,” she said.

“Although the RCCF is one of our newest affiliates, the enthusiasm, vision, generosity and determination that Mr. Stacy and Mr. Byrne have brought to our organization will seal their success,” said Elizabeth C. Fentress, NCCF president. “They certainly emulate the Lewis Holding tradition of leadership, stewardship and strength.”
