The Swain County Community Foundation was established to serve the needs of local nonprofit organizations, donors and charitable causes. The Swain County Community Foundation is an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation.
Gifts and bequests may be made to any of the established funds at any time. In addition, other special funds may be set up within the Swain County Community Foundation for any charitable purpose. All gifts are tax-deductible.

McHan-Freeman-Shuler Scholarship Endowment
McHan-Freeman-Shuler Scholarship Endowment was established by Janet Freeman in honor of the
McHan-Freeman-Shuler family and education.The scholarship is awarded annually to a student from
a Swain County high school who is pursuing a teacher certificate or a degree in teaching education.
Swain County Unrestricted Endowment Fund
The Swain County Unrestricted Endowment Fund enables the Swain County Community Foundation
to respond to changing community needs and to enhance the quality of community life within the county. Donors allow flexibility in how these funds are to be used, leaving the Swain County Board of
Directors to award grants each year to local nonprofit organizations.
Kennedy Endowment Fund
This donor-advised fund benefits general charitable purposes.
Julia Hunt Endowment
This fund provides scholarships for Swain County residents pursuing a degree at a university or college
with volunteer experience in Swain County.
Swain County United Gift Fund
The purpose of this fund is to support charitable organizations in Swain County.
PAWS: Placing Animals Within Society Endowment
This fund provides ongoing support for PAWS (Placing Animals Within Society), an animal shelter in
Swain County, NC.
Swain High Instrument Program Endowment
This fund provides for charitable uses in musical education for students in Swain County schools.
Nantahala Outdoor Center Environmental & Humanitarian Endowment
The Nantahala Outdoor Center Environmental and Humanitarian Endowment was established with a
percentage of the company's profit and is added to every year.The fund supports environmental and
humanitarian purposes.

The purpose of this fund is to support the Living Waters Ministries.
Youth Are Our Future Endowment
Youth are Our Future Endowment was established to improve the quality of life for youth living in
Swain County.
Bob Robinson Family Scholarship Endowment
This fund provides a scholarship for a Swain County High School graduate planning to attend a four-
year state supported college in North Carolina with a preference given for financial need.
Fontana Regional Library Endowment
Fontana Regional Library Endowment was established to support and develop the programs and
services of the Fontana Regional Library.
Swain County Public Schools Foundation Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships for graduates of Swain High School.
Bunn Band Boosters Endowment
Bunn Band Boosters Fund was established by Don and Suzanne Bunn in memory of their two sons to
assist with the purchase and upkeep of band uniforms for Swain High School and to support the Bunn
Memorial Grand Championship Trophy each year.
Nantahala Outdoor Center Environmental & Humanitarian Gift Fund
The Nantahala Outdoor Center Environmental and Humanitarian Gift Fund was established with
employee donations to give large gifts until the endowment fund grows large enough to make regular disbursements.The fund supports environmental and humanitarian purposes.
