Yesterday we had a farewell party for Sandi Matthews, who has served as our controller for the past seven years (actually 7.7 years in “accounting speak”).

Sandi has a fabulous opportunity to serve as technical manager at the American Institute of CPA’s for the not-for-profit section. This is at the association's national headquarters in Durham, where she will be able to combine her creative talents with her deep knowledge of nonprofits and experience as a CPA.

And we are all so proud of her.

Our NCCF staff family is a group of talented, strong, smart folks who have a real passion for philanthropy. Sandi brought incredible expertise, ethics and smarts to her position here. But what made her especially valuable was her experience growing up in rural North Carolina and her incredible passion for giving back to her community.

One of the best parts of leading an organization is seeing the growth and leadership of your team, and we are proud to be the place where Sandi honed some of her talents.

Our time yesterday was a perfect mix of congratulatory send-off, complete with many laughs and several tears. And a touching, bittersweet reminder of why our people make the difference here at NCCF.
