The Carteret Community Foundation (CCF) is now accepting team registrations for its 29th annual “Golfing for Grants” charity tournament, scheduled for Thursday, May 7, at the Morehead City Country Club.

“This tournament has become a long-standing tradition for the Carteret Community Foundation and our community,” said Richard McIntyre, CCF board president. “This is our biggest fundraiser for the year, and the Foundation uses the proceeds to provide grants to local nonprofit organizations.” Eighty percent of the funds raised go directly toward the 2015 grants that are distributed by CCF in the fall. The remaining twenty percent of resources raised through the event is invested in the CCF community endowment fund that will grow as a permanent local resource and fund future charitable endeavors.

Last year CCF awarded more than $24,500 to 10 nonprofit organizations that serve the people of Carteret County. The CCF board strives to support a wide range of projects. In 2014, CCF supported projects ranging from home-delivered meals by the Friends of the Aging of Carteret County, summer camp for children with muscular dystrophy, a “Great Futures” program for the Boys & Girls Club, enhancement of the English Double Decker bus for the Beaufort Historical Association and more.

Parker Buick GMC will once again provide a new car as a hole-in-one prize, according to Jimmy Mercer, CCF board member and chair of the golf tournament committee. “We are very pleased to be holding this event at the Morehead City Country Club for this, our 29th year of the tournament,” he said. “It helps us raise much needed funds for local charities in our community, along with providing a great excuse to get outdoors.” Golfers will be awarded prizes for the best scores, most accurate drive, longest drive and closest to the pin, with special prizes for holes-in-one. “Come on out,” he said.

Those interested in playing or hosting a team should contact Mercer by email at or by calling the Carteret Community Foundation information number at 252-288-5706. Team registration for four people is $450, which includes a hole sponsorship. Individual registration is $75 per person and includes green fees, snacks and dinner.
