The board of advisors of the Chowan Community Funds Foundation announces $16,000 in local grant awards from its community grantmaking fund.

This year’s nonprofit recipients include:

  • $1,000 to the Albemarle Commission Senior Nutrition Program for Meals on Wheels-Chowan County
  • $3,000 to Boys & Girls Club of Edenton/Chowan County for junior staff
  • $1,000 to the Chowan Edenton Environmental Group for local environmental action through citizen science
  • $1,000 to the Chowan/Perquimans Smart Start Partnership for Reach Out and Read
  • $1,000 to the Dream Hunt and Fish Foundation for operating support
  • $2,000 to the Edenton Farmers Market for the An Avenue to Healthy Northeastern North Carolina Residents program
  • $1,000 to the Edenton Historical Commission for antiques, textiles and artifacts' protection on the second and third floors of the Penelope Barker House
  • $3,000 to the Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry for operating support
  • $3,000 to Kids First for the child abuse prevention and evidence-based treatment program

Katharine Little Farless, board president, thanked the community for its support of the Chowan Community Funds Foundation. “These grants are important to our community and our quality of life,” she said. “Critical programs would not be possible without the generosity of many individuals and organizations that have supported Chowan County’s community fund.”
