The fifth annual Duck & Wine Festival of 2013 brought together many chefs and local restaurants showcasing their creative talents; local charitable organizations and their programs; a sampling of wines to stretch our appreciation (thanks Dan and Scott); and it all came together at a wonderful location hosted by the Duck Waterfront Shops in Duck.
Our Currituck-Dare Community Foundation board extends its appreciation to the many individuals and business sponsors who donated time, talents and financial help. Top of this list is the event host, Coastal Provisions Market and Coastal Cantina, and owners/chefs-Scott Foster and Dan Lewis. We also owe a huge THANKs to Maple Leaf Farms for their incredible donation of the duck and for their support of this festival. We also want to thank all of our charitable partners and participants who came from near and far to enjoy this fun event and contributed to its success.
Nearly $15,000 was raised in total for charitable purposes! We made two charitable awards on behalf of First Place Chef Awards: Metropolis to Water’s Edge Village School in Corolla and on behalf of The Brewing Station to the American Cancer Society for their Outer Banks Team. The Currituck-Dare Community Fund will grow its grantmaking capacity by nearly $9,000; and each of our charitable partners: Kids First, Inc., Water’s Edge Village School and the ‘W and J Hunt & D and Alice Lindsey Fund for HJCS’, will receive $1,700. Each charity also had the opportunity to showcase their services, accept donations and to sell items to support their organizations.
Best of all were the connections many made to participants, the restaurants and the good time everyone had. Our website duckandwine.com has lots of photos and links to all the restaurants and participants. Thank you again to everyone who helped with this successful event. We hope you will join us next year on April 26; tickets sell out quickly and sales begin on Feb. 1.
