The board of directors of the Currituck-Dare Community Foundation (CDCF) announces the April 25 return of the Duck & Wine Festival, its annual fundraiser hosted in partnership with Coastal Cantina at The Duck Waterfront Shops from noon to 3 p.m.

Funds raised are for the community foundation’s local grantmaking program, according to Lynne Alterman, CDCF board member and event co-chair. The CDCF has also named three nonprofit partners to receive some of the proceeds from this year’s event: Whalehead in Historic Corolla, Currituck Kids and Kids First.

The Duck & Wine Festival is a one-day restaurant cook-off judged by both a panel and also event participants. Each chef creates a dish prepared from duck donated by Maple Leaf Farms and pairs it with a wine selected by Coastal Cantina. The festival highlights talents of local restaurants, with tickets selling out every year as it attracts both local residents and out-of- town visitors.

The event also raises awareness about local charities. In addition to grants provided through this event, the prize money awarded to the winning chefs is also allocated to local nonprofits of their choosing.  “This event is all about having fun for a good cause,” said Janet Colegrove, CDCF board president.

The CDCF board and committee would like to thank this year’s sponsors: Twiddy & Co Realtors, Coastal Cantina, Maple Leaf Farms, Carolina Designs Realty, The Blue Point, The Duck Waterfront Shops, Steve Alterman Photography, OBX Chevrolet, TowneBank of Currituck, Corolla Classic Vacations, 8 Dot Graphics, Kellogg’s/The Cottage Shop, In the Lens Photography and TNT.

The popularity of this event has grown over the years, with tickets selling very quickly.  This year’s event is now sold out.
