The New Hanover County Community Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2013 grant application cycle, and the application deadline is Tuesday, April 30.
The New Hanover County Community Foundation was established in 1987 as the Cape Fear Community Foundation, later changing its name to the Community Foundation of Southeastern North Carolina. Since its inception, the Foundation and more than 80 fundholders have given more than $14 million in grants primarily to nonprofit organizations in New Hanover County.
In 2009, the Foundation became an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation, the single statewide community foundation serving North Carolina. Each year, the New Hanover County Community Foundation awards grants to local nonprofits through a competitive application process. In 2012, the Foundation and its component funds awarded more than $2 million to nonprofit organizations.
Proposals are sought from New Hanover County nonprofit organizations in support of broad charitable purposes in the areas of arts and humanities, education, the environment, health, human services, public and societal benefit and youth development. Funds are also available for programs that promote improved race relations in New Hanover County.
Strong consideration will be given to projects that build charitable capacity for the non-profit through such efforts as board training, staff development, strategic planning, and efforts that promote sustainable funding for the organization. Collaborative efforts are strongly encouraged.
Grants are not available for capital campaigns, capital improvements, out-of-state travel or for individuals.
Grants typically range from $250 to $2,000.
