The board of advisors of the Onslow Caring Communities Foundation announces $35,000 in local grant awards from its community grantmaking fund and the Dallas Fred Allen Endowment.

This year’s nonprofit recipients included:

  • $1,700 to Autism Society of North Carolina for 2017 Camp Royall program scholarships
  • $1,400 to Children's Home Society of North Carolina, Inc. for Onslow County family recruitment
  • $1,300 to Children’s Museum of Jacksonville for 2018 Association of Children's Museums Professional Development Conference attendance
  • $3,000 to City of Jacksonville for the HARMONY Youth Grants Board Philanthropy Initiative
  • $1,500 to Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines for the Onslow County Girl Scout Leadership Experience
  • $800 to Muscular Dystrophy Association for MDA Summer Camp
  • $1,800 to Onslow Literacy Council Inc. for expansion sites, training and outreach
  • $15,000 to Possumwood Acres Wildlife Sanctuary for the Come Find Your CENTER program
  • $3,000 to Prevent Blindness North Carolina for Star Pupils Onslow County
  • $29,500 to the American Red Cross for recovery services for Onslow County residents
  • $3,000 to TROSA (Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers, Inc.) for residential substance abuse recovery services for individuals from Onslow County
  • $2,500 to Wilmington Family YMCA for continued expansion of Girls on the Run and STRIDE programs for Onslow County youth

Debbi Ray Rouse, board president, thanked the community for its support of the Onslow Caring Communities Foundation. “These grants are important to our community and our quality of life,” she said. “Critical programs would not be possible without the generosity of many individuals and organizations that have supported Onslow County’s community grantmaking fund.”
