The Onslow Caring Communities Foundation’s 2013 grant cycle opened on Friday, March 15, and the board invites nonprofits to complete an application for support of initiatives that benefit the people of Onslow County.

In 1999, a group of committed Onslow County citizens came together to establish the Onslow Caring Communities Foundation.  Since then, the Foundation has enjoyed tremendous success, establishing 20 charitable endowed funds for important Onslow County non-profit causes and building a local philanthropic asset base of more than $4.2 million.

Since its inception, the Onslow Caring Community Foundation has made more than $170,000 in grants to local nonprofits from the Onslow Unrestricted Endowment Fund.  Local board members are Steve Wangerin (President), Budda Howard, Dr. Todd Fischer, Glenn Hargett, Rod Martin, Dr. Kenneth Morgan, Sr., Debbi Ray Rouse, Julee Efird Sewell, John Stevenson, Neil Thompson, Boyd Tisdale and Dr. Greg Williams.

Grant criteria

The Foundation is seeking proposals from Onslow County nonprofit organizations in support of broad charitable purposes in the areas of arts and humanities, education, the environment, health, human services, public and societal benefit and youth-serving initiatives.

Strong consideration will be given to projects that build charitable capacity for the non-profit through such efforts as board training, staff development, strategic planning, and efforts that promote sustainable funding for the organization.  Collaborative efforts are strongly encouraged.

Grants are not available for capital campaigns, capital improvements or for individuals.

Grants typically range from $250 to $2,000.
