The latest student to be featured in our scholar spotlight is Ashton Turbyfill from Bryson City. She is a recipient of the McHan-Freeman-Shuler Scholarship, which provides financial assistance to students from Swain County who are pursuing a teacher certificate or a degree in teaching education.

Ashton graduated from Swain County High School and is in her first year at Western Carolina University, where she studies special education. Her goal is to teach disadvantaged children so they can receive the education they deserve. She is proud to have the opportunity to attend such a great teaching institution while staying close to home.

Ashton also loves to sing and hopes to use her talent in the classroom to get students excited about learning. The NCCF wishes all the best to Ashton!

Scholarship recipients who would like to be featured in our Scholar Spotlight should email a picture of themselves to Leslie Ann Jackson.
