Grants awarded
The Avery Community Foundation has selected two local nonprofit organizations as grantees of their 2009 competitive grant cycle for awards made from the Avery Legacy Fund. Grants from the Avery Legacy Fund and the Avery Youth and Education Fund are:

The Avery Youth and Education Fund has awarded a $4,000 grant to Avery County High School for scholarship support of two students.
Avery Co. Smart Start, $915 for the Raising a Reader Program and Community Groups
Parent to Parent Family Support Network-High Country, $365 for Community Outreach
Through the Avery Legacy Fund a grant of $100 was awarded to Yellow Mountain Enterprises for general operating support from the net proceeds of the Avery Triple Crown Races.
