The NCCF’s board of directors has presented the Lewis R. Holding Philanthropic Leadership Award for 2009 to Billy Woodard of Fuquay-Varina, according to James W. Narron, board chair.
Woodard was honored at the NCCF’s recent board meeting for his leadership in helping to develop the Foundation as a statewide entity, Narron said. “Billy has tirelessly raised funds for our operating endowment through his own contributions as well as his dedication and willingness to approach others,” he said.
Woodard also was instrumental in establishing affiliates in Granville, Harnett, Hoke, Montgomery and Moore counties. He was elected to the statewide board in 1993 and has served as secretary for the past 15 years. He is the chairman of the Fidelity Bank.
The Lewis R. Holding Philanthropic Leadership Award is presented annually by the NCCF board to a Foundation volunteer who has demonstrated exceptional leadership resulting in outstanding stewardship and growth. Holding was the NCCF’s founder and first board chair. His daughter Carmen Holding Ames created the award to honor her father and attended the board meeting to help make the presentation to Woodard.
