Chante Alexandra Brown received the 2011 George A. Kahdy Scholarship at Enloe High School in Raleigh May 16. The award was presented at the school's annual Senior Awards Program honoring academic excellence.
The award was presented by Kelli Moore Barham, a member of the 1968 graduating class that established the scholarship to honor George Kahdy, the founding principal of the school. Mr. Kahdy himself was also in attendance to present this year's award.
This is the fourth annual Kahdy award, established to honor a student who displays integrity, good character, academic achievement and service to school and community. Chante's many achievements include a strong academic performance all four years of high school and participation in many extra-curricular activities, including Chess Club, Enloe Marching Band, managing the softball team and volunteering for Toys for Tots. She plans to attend East Carolina University.
The Kahdy Scholarship award is just one of many presentations taking place this spring in NCCF's affiliate partner communities across North Carolina. NCCF awarded more than 300 scholarships totaling $450,000 in 2010.
