List of funds

The Watauga County Community Foundation was established to serve the needs of local nonprofit organizations, donors and charitable causes. The Watauga County Community Foundation is an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation. 

John & Ruth Blue Scholarship Endowment 
This fund provides scholarships for graduates of a high school in Watauga County or Watauga County residents graduating from the North Carolina School of Science and Math, the North Carolina School of the Arts, or any other school for academically gifted students. 
 
Patricia M. and Michael J. Cade Endowment 
The Patricia M. and Michael J. Cade Endowment Fund supports the programs of the Watauga Humane Society.
 
Church of the Holy Cross Endowment 
The purpose of this fund is to support the Church of the Holy Cross in Valle Crucis, NC.
 
Armfield and Rachel Rivers Coffey Memorial Fund 
Created in honor of integral members of the Boone-area philanthropic community, the Armfield and Rachel Rivers Coffey Endowment supports the Watauga Humane Society and also allows the Watauga County Community Foundation Advisory Board to award grants each year to local nonprofit organizations. 
 
John E. Cooper, III Memorial Scholarship Endowment 
The John E. Cooper III Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established in memory of the son of John and Faye Cooper, owners of Mast General Store. It provides support to eligible high school graduates that are employees of the Mast General Store or the children of a Mast General Store employee. 
 
Wayne D. Duncan Appalachian State University Faculty Enrichment & Teaching Fellowship 
This fund provides a fellowship award to those faculty members who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication and excellence in performing their duties as teaching members of the faculty.
 
Mary Banks & F. Gwyn Harper Scholarship Fund 
The Mary Banks and F. Gwyn Harper Scholarship Fund benefits graduates of Blowing Rock or Watauga County high schools that meet the qualifications of need, academic achievement, and religious commitment. 
 
Haysi High School Class of 1961 Memorial Scholarship 
The Haysi High School Class of 1961 Memorial Scholarship benefits students graduating from Haysi High School in Virginia.You may visit their the Class website at www.hhs61scholarship.com.
 
High Country Recreation Foundation Endowment 
The High Country Recreation Endowment provides ongoing support for the programs of the Foundation. 
 
High Country Watermedia Society Endowment 
This fund promotes art throughout the geographic area known as the High Country by awarding art grants to local organizations for art activities. 
 
Bill Horn Scholarship Endowment 
This fund provides scholarships for graduates of Watauga County High School.

Hospitality House of Boone General Endowment Fund
This fund provides for the ongoing support of Hospitality House of Boone.
 
John Knapp Memorial Scholarship Endowment 
The John Knapp Memorial Scholarship memorializes the spirit and integrity of John Knapp, an active officer of the Boone Police Department who unexpectedly passed away from natural causes in March of 1999. The recipient of the award must be a high school graduate or equivalent and be a child or spouse of an active (non-probationary) or retired as active, living or deceased Watauga County area law enforcement officer. 
 
Dora S. and V. B. Mast Education, Conservation and Charitable Fund 
This donor-advised fund benefits general charitable purposes in Watauga County.
 
Martha Mathes Endowment 
This donor-advised fund supports general charitable purposes. 
 
Mountain AIDS Support Endowment 
The Mountain AIDS Support Endowment benefits AIDS education and organizations that support AIDS patients or programs in the Watauga County area. 

Oasis, Inc. Endowment 
The purpose of this fund is to support the work of Oasis, Inc., located in Boone, NC, which provides shelter and support for abused women. 
 
Lan O'Loughlin Personal Achievement Award 
The purpose of this fund is to support graduating seniors from Watauga High School in Boone, NC.
 
Parent to Parent Endowment Fund 
The Parent to Parent Endowment Fund is devoted to the general support of Parent to Parent Family Support Network of the High Country, which provides support to families who have children with disabilities or chronic health concerns and to families with grief due to the death of a child.You may visit the Parent to Parent website at www.parent2parenthighscountry.org. 
 
PEO Chapter Q Margaret Gragg Scholarship Endowment 
This fund provides scholarships for females graduating from Watauga High School with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. 
 
Gene L. Reese Scholarship Endowment 
The Gene L. Reese Scholarship Endowment provides support to eligible high school graduates that are pursuing dental auxiliary careers from counties represented by the Tarheel Dental Study Club members (Ashe, Avery, Mitchell or Watauga counties). 
 
Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church Scholarship Endowment 
The Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church Scholarship Endowment supports a candidate for the ministry who is under supervision and care of the Presbytery, a candidate accepted by a Presbyterian School of Christian Education with an aim toward work as director of Christian Education or work in the mission field, or a candidate accepted by a graduate school or seminary in preparation for a church vocation through the Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church. Preference is given to academically qualified persons with demonstrated need from the Rumple Church membership or the Blowing Rock Elementary School District. 
 
Valle Crucis Community Park Endowment 
The Valle Crucis Community Park Endowment is devoted to the general support of the park that serves residents of Watauga, Avery, and Ashe counties. The park also operates as a small land trust and nature conservancy whose mission is to preserve wild and agricultural open spaces, to protect the natural habitat for indigenous wildlife and to monitor the water quality of rivers and streams.

Watauga Education Foundation Endowment Fund 
The Watauga Educational Foundation Endowment supports projects that benefit all students, improve graduation rates, support the arts and other enrichment activities, support teacher initiatives, provide scholarships or increase public participation in public schools within Watauga County.
 
Watauga Legacy Fund 
The Watauga Legacy Fund enables the Watauga County Community Foundation to respond to changing community needs and to enhance the quality of community life within the county. Donors allow flexibility in how these funds are to be used, leaving the Watauga County Board of Directors to award grants each year to local nonprofit organizations. 

Watauga-Ashe-Wilkes Education Fund

The Watauga-Ashe-Wilkes Education Fund provides grants to educational efforts in Watauga, Ashe and Wilkes counties.

Watauga-Ashe-Wilkes Scholarship

The Watauga-Ashe-Wilkes Scholarship provides scholarships to deserving students from Watauga, Ashe and Wilkes counties.

Doc & Merle Watson Museum Fund
 
The Doc and Merle Watson Museum Fund supports Cove Creek Preservation and Development and the Doc and Merle Watson Museum. Housed in the historic Cove Creek High School Building, the museum was established to celebrate the lives of two of North Carolina's most notable and best-loved native musicians unsurpassed in their interpretation and performance of the folk music of Appalachia.
