Michelle Gonzalez-Marroquin is a Smithfield native, Selma High School graduate and first generation college student studying at Johnston Community College.
She plans to study nursing and chose Johnston Community College to reduce the financial burden on her family before transferring to finish at a four-year institution.
As a first generation student, she hopes to be a role model to her little brothers and sisters and demonstrate that with hard work and dedication they can get a quality education too.
She looks forward to the opportunity continuing her education will afford and hopes to make her family and community proud. She begins studies at Johnston Community College this fall with help from the Ernestine J. Williams Scholarship.
