The board of advisors of the Wilkes Community Foundation announces $5,910 in local grant awards from its community grantmaking fund and the Kyle Hayes Memorial Endowment Fund.

This year’s nonprofit recipients include:

  • $500 to Project Lazarus for recovery services
  • $500 to Appalachian State University for senior programs
  • $500 to Communities In Schools of Wilkes for New Century Scholars
  • $500 to Wilkes Circles of Care for Wilkes Circles of Care
  • $500 to Operation FINALLY HOME for U.S. Army SPC Chance Cleary Project
  • $910 to Catherine H. Barber Memorial Shelter, Inc. for food cards for daytime relief during inclement weather
  • $500 to Unified City Church for Justice Project Food Pantry
  • $500 to Crisis Assistance of St. Paul's Episcopal Church for Crisis Assistance Survival
  • $1,000 to Wilkes Adult Developmental Activity Program, Inc. for Wilkes Works 2017
  • $500 to Mediation & Restorative Justice Center for MRJC: Building Community Capacity for Managing Conflict

Graham Wyche, board president, thanked the community for its support of the Wilkes Community Foundation. “These grants are important to our community and our quality of life,” he said. “Critical programs would not be possible without the generosity of many individuals and organizations that have supported Wilkes County’s community fund.”
