The board of advisors of the Yakin County Community Foundation announces $7,440 in local grants and scholarship awards from its community grantmaking fund and component funds, the Pauline “Polly” Hudspeth Wood & Dr. William L. Wood Sr. Endowment, the Hubert Lewis Phillips and Pearl Shermer Phillips Scholarship Fund and the Jonathan Jackson Cancer Survivors’ Scholarship Fund:

This year’s nonprofit grant recipients included:

  • $1,000 to Magnify Ministries, Inc for Impact Yadkin
  • $1,500 to Solus Christus for general operating support
  • $750 to Children's Center of Surry, Inc. for Children's Center Life Skills
  • $1,250 to Starmount Middle School for SPRK Cross Curriculuar Learning with Sphero SPRK devices and iPods

This year’s scholarship recipients included:

  • $845 to Emily Mendenhall from the Hubert Lewis Phillips and Pearl Shermer Phillips Scholarship Fund
  • $845 to Marlee Pardue from the Hubert Lewis Phillips and Pearl Shermer Phillips Scholarship Fund
  • $750 to Madison Ruff from the Jonathan Jackson Cancer Survivors’ Scholarship Fund
  • $500 to Travis Dixon for Humanitarian Award from the Pauline “Polly” Hudspeth Wood & Dr. William L. Wood Sr. Endowment

Lisa Drum, board president, thanked the community for its support of the Yadkin County Community Foundation. “These grants are important to our community and our quality of life,” she said. “Critical programs would not be possible without the generosity of many individuals and organizations that have supported Yadkin County’s community fund.”
