Senior Communications and Marketing Officer

Are you an experienced communications professional with a desire to lead the communications, branding and content management for a thriving community foundation? This role will develop and lead the North Carolina Community Foundation’s overall communications and marketing strategy, implementing a broad range of efforts to encourage philanthropy, share compelling stories of philanthropy’s impact locally and throughout North Carolina, and create goodwill for NCCF’s services among customers or prospects.

This role will support a broad range of communications, public relations, and marketing activities. The ideal candidate sees communications and marketing as vehicles for community engagement and amplifying community voice.

We are currently seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Sr. Communications & Marketing Officer, supporting the work of the organization with responsibility for all day-to-day aspects of the communications functions for the foundation. 

The NCCF is the single statewide community foundation serving North Carolina and has made more than $184 million in grants since our inception in 1988. With $290 million in assets, NCCF sustains more than 1,200 endowments established to provide long-term support of a broad range of community needs, nonprofit organizations, institutions, and scholarships. The NCCF partners with a network of 53 affiliate foundations to provide local resource allocation and community assistance across the state. An important component of NCCF’s mission is to ensure that rural philanthropy has a voice at local, regional, and national levels.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Works collaboratively with senior leadership to develop and implement a communications plan, using strategies and methods that will allow the foundation to achieve its mission of inspiring philanthropy in North Carolinians.
  • Develops, implements, and manages the foundation’s internal and external communications activities with a focus on establishing and delivering key branding messages and strategies to reach various constituencies.
  • Oversees creation and production of all external print and digital communications including annual reports, newsletters, large-scale annual campaign mailings, website, social media accounts, press releases, and other marketing materials.
  • Liaises with nonprofits, affiliate foundations, fundholders, donors, professional advisors, and community colleagues to generate compelling, creative, and accurate written content.
  • Oversees vendor relationships with external graphic design, printing and other companies engaged in marketing and communications services.
  • Articulates the voice of the organization to build a distinct brand, ensuring that the brand remains consistent across the website, affiliate pages, and social media platforms.
  • Provides PR and communications services to NCCF staff, including audience research, identification of strategic messaging goals, and preparation of speeches, talking points and presentations.
  • Tracks and analyzes metrics to improve website development and social media strategy and engagement. Gains insight into audience demographics and effectiveness of email and social media campaigns.
  • Keeps current regarding trends and developments in design, communications technology, and community foundation marketing, including applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assists with the development of marketing collateral for individual funds and for NCCF.
  • Monitors media and responds to media inquiries.
  • Manages related vendor services.

 Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, or related field of study

Experience:

  • Experience in communications and marketing, including 5 or more years’ work experience
  • Experience in philanthropic/nonprofit sectors is a plus
  • Excellent understanding of customer service and relevant skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally work during non-standard hours for meetings and events or for travel
