Publicity tools

It’s important to get the word out about grants your organization receives from NCCF grants programs. Not only does it let the community know about your organization’s great work, but it can also encourage giving and inform other nonprofits about NCCF’s grantmaking programs available.

Receiving a grant through NCCF’s community grantmaking program that our affiliates offer also lends credibility to your organization and its programs because it is a competitive process. Resources are limited and needs are great in every community we serve, so local grants committees employ a thorough evaluation process before making grants recommendations each year. This is also the case for many grants processes offered through NCCF fundholders.

While NCCF generally publicizes and announces many grant awards, your organization may want to go into more detail about your funded programs. Members of the news media are interested in hearing directly from the nonprofit because you are the most knowledgeable about your programs and results.

If you have any questions, email the regional director representing your area or contact NCCF's marketing and communications department in Raleigh at 919-828-4387.

Acknowledging your grant

Be sure to acknowledge in all publicity, exhibits, publications, social media and on your website the source of your grant. If you received a grant from one of our affiliate foundations, you are expected to cite the affiliate foundation name in publicizing and acknowledging your grant. Please include the name of the local affiliate foundation, also noting that funds are administered through the North Carolina Community Foundation. If you need help determining the exact name of the affiliate foundation that awarded you a grant, feel free to contact the NCCF regional director serving your area or check our affiliate listing. If you received your grant from a fundholder, be sure to cite the name of the fund.

Grant recipient publicity suggestions

  • Include news of your grant in any publications your organization distributes. This includes news releases, newsletters, brochures, annual reports, board minutes, lists of supporters, etc.
  • Don’t forget your website and social media outlets. These outlets will allow you to link directly to NCCF’s website and/or the appropriate affiliate foundation page.
  • Contact the local news media. Include community newspapers, online outlets, special interest publications and local TV and radio stations, with a news release and a personal phone call.
  • The local NCCF community foundation affiliate’s name should be included in all communications channels. Contact the regional director serving your area if you need the logo of your affiliate community foundation or use the NCCF logo available below. If your grant is from a fundholder, be sure to provide the name of fund. This information is always included in the letters and other paperwork that accompanies your grant check.
  • Please provide NCCF with any pictures, videos or other content from your program. NCCF may promote your program through news stories in our publications, on our website or via our social media outlets. Pictures are the best way for people to see the work your organization does. Please be sure all people in the photograph or video have signed a release. This is essential for minors.
