Power of the Purse & Pretties Auction coming Feb. 27

The Women Givers of Northeast North Carolina is hosting the Eighth Annual Power of the Purse Auction to support their charitable efforts in the counties of Camden, Gates, Pasquotank and Perquimans.

The event will take place on February 27 at Arts of the Albemarle on 516 E. Main St., in Elizabeth City, from 12-2:30. This is a ticketed event and persons wishing to purchase tickets can visit Page After Page Bookstore or Arts of the Albemarle. Event tickets are $25 each, and auction tickets, $10 for 12. This year, local clothing boutiques will offer a fashion show with 3 ensembles each, they include Honey & Hive, Shay Leslie boutiques and Paradise Treasures.

This year’s event sponsors include Lisa Harman Law Firm, Transformation Dentistry and Long & Foster Real Estate. We have received generous donations of custom made handbags, along with donations of jewelry, scarves and bags from area businesses and artists. This event is intended to raise funds to be used for the spring grant awards made to support the direct services of area nonprofit organizations serving local needs of women and girls.

This fund has awarded over $40,000 in grants since 2007, according to Robin Zinsmeister, co-chair, to support programs and special projects at Albemarle Hopeline, the Food Bank of the Albemarle, Girls Inc., Kids First, Girls Inc., Albemarle Smart Start, HLTrigg Community School, Rheema Ministries, College of the Albemarle Foundation, Elizabeth City State University, National Council of Negro Women, Foreshadow Academy and Chowan/Perquimans Smart Start.

In all cases, the needs of women and children are the focus of the grant program. Area nonprofit organizations apply for these grants to support their services. Nonprofits serving these needs can apply beginning March 11.
