The board of advisors of the Currituck-Dare Community Foundation announces the establishment of the Northeast NC Coastal Research and Environmental Education Fund, according to Sheila Tyler, president.
Initially established with a gift from Bill and Peggy Birkemeier, the endowment will support charitable uses in the field of coastal scientific research and environmental education in the northeastern counties of North Carolina. Bill, retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers, and Peggy, retired from NCCF, both love and appreciate the challenges of the coastal environment. “This fund will help to support the important work of a growing network of local organizations with funding for scientific research and environmental education, many of which we have helped to establish or to grow during our 34 years as residents of the Outer Banks,” said Peggy Birkemeier.
“The Currituck-Dare Community Foundation is very pleased to add the Northeast NC Coastal Research and Environmental Education Fund to our local family of funds, “Tyler said.
To make a donation to the fund, send a check to NC Community Foundation, 204 S. Poindexter St. Elizabeth City, NC 27909 and put Northeast NC Coastal Research and Environmental Education Fund on the memo line or make a gift online.
For further information, email Natalie Jenkins Peel, NCCF regional associate, or call her at (252) 216-8908.
