Women's Giving Network of Wake County awards $95,000 to nonprofits, bringing grantmaking to over $1.7M

The Women's Giving Network of Wake County (WGN), a giving circle of the North Carolina Community Foundation, has awarded $95,000 to four nonprofits supporting women, children and families in Wake County.
The announcement of their 2022 grantees was made on Nov. 2 to over 100 women attending their 16th Annual IMPACT Luncheon, the first in-person event since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The grantees were selected after a multi-month due diligence review process by WGN’s Grants Committee. WGN members were able to cast their vote for the nonprofits they wanted to support.
WGN granted:
$15,000 to the Autism Society of North Carolina to launch a new women’s weekend at Camp Royall for selected Wake County women most in need. This program will help ASNC introduce these women, often single mothers, and their children with autism to the breadth of available ASNC services and to a network of support in their community.
$30,000 to JusticeMatters to bring on a part-time attorney in their Wake County Office to increase the clients they are able to serve. JusticeMatters provides access to legal services for low-income women and children in Wake County free of charge.
$25,000 to Learning Together to help cover the unforeseen costs of their relocation due to a fire. This includes new furniture, therapy supplies, classroom material, rent insurance in support their eventual return and expansion to their Crosby-Garfield location. Learning Together is a super-inclusive day center for children ages 18 months to 5 years.
$25,000 to Seasons Village to help support their 30-month three-phase program called Pathways to Prosperity. Seasons Village partners with single-mother-led families from southeast Raleigh to foster a strong foundation for intergenerational prosperity by helping to remove or reduce the barriers to post-secondary education.
The annual IMPACT Luncheon was held at the Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center at NC State University and sponsored by Bank of America and WALTER Magazine.
WGN leverages the power of collective giving to provide its members with insight and inspiration that ultimately drives greater impact for the community. The network supports nonprofit organizations serving women, children and families in Wake County. WGN has awarded more than $1.7 million in grants since 2006.
“We are so grateful to have been able to get back together in person and celebrate the impact of WGN in support of women, children and families in Wake County,” said Amy Pirozzolo, president. “Thank you to our members for their continued and sustained generosity to make these grants happen and to the nonprofits who are tirelessly working to support the needs of our community.”
“Investing in the lives of single mothers directly impacts the trajectory of the next generation. WGN’s grant will help us continue making a tremendous positive impact to serve families," said Kim Shirley, co-founder and executive director of Seasons Village, which received a grant from WGN.
Cynthia Rowe, WGN’s president-elect, said she looks forward to WGN continuing to make a significant impact in the community. “We know the needs in Wake County are great and we remain committed to continuing to support our community and make a positive impact in the days and years ahead,” Rowe said.
The North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF) is the only statewide community foundation serving North Carolina and has administered over $243 million in grants since 1988. With more than $440 million in assets, NCCF sustains more than 1,200 endowments and partners with a network of affiliates to award grants and scholarships in communities across the state.
An important component of NCCF’s mission is to ensure rural philanthropy has a voice at the local, regional and national levels.
