Criteria

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors from Randolph County high schools with special consideration given to students graduating from Trinity and Wheatmore High Schools who are pursuing an undergraduate teaching (K-12) degree.

About Michelle Hedrick

Chad Hedrick, his son Zachary Hedrick, and mother-in-law Sandi Sweeney established the Michelle S. Hedrick Teaching Scholarship in memory of their beloved wife, mother, and daughter. Michelle passed away in 2022, at the age of 49 after battling lung disease with fierce determination and courage.  Michelle was a highly respected and dedicated teacher for 21 years in Randolph County, inspiring many students at Hopewell Elementary and Braxton Middle School.

She believed strongly in everyone’s abilities and possibilities and number one priority was to help students reach their highest potential and make learning fun. Michelle had an innate ability to make everyone, but especially her students, feel at ease. She was always genuinely interested in what anyone thought.

Michelle was a lifelong learner who believed in giving back to others. She was a National Board Certified Teacher who mentored many student teachers and served on various school and district committees. Michelle touched many people with her enthusiasm for learning and positive attitude.
