NCCF scholarship season launches with major enhancements

by Kathryn Holding

An Edgecombe County student who, inspired by her fourth-grade teacher, plans to return home to become a teacher. A Rockingham County high school athlete who hopes to become an orthopedic surgeon or chiropractor. An accomplished visual and vocal artist from Watauga County whose family overcame financial challenges and is now studying visual arts at Virginia Tech.

NCCF partners with donors to administer nearly 150 scholarship funds for the benefit of students across the state. All three students were among the 309 students from across the state who last year received $1.3 million in scholarship aid from the North Carolina Community Foundation.

This year, we were thrilled to say we’ve made our scholarships program even better. We’ve launched a new Universal Scholarships Application, an online application form that allows students to apply for multiple NCCF scholarships using a single application.

The universal application is being used by more than 130 of our scholarships and will provide students with an easier and more efficient scholarship application experience while preserving the distinct eligibility criteria set by our fundholders that make each NCCF scholarship unique.

We are proud of this work to launch the universal application and know it will be an easier and more efficient scholarship application experience for students and their references.

We also project an overall increase in scholarship applications, and a more diverse candidate pool.

Launching this new and improved scholarship application process would not have been possible without the dedication of our full team at NCCF. Nor would it have been possible without the partnership of our fundholders who’ve entrusted us with scholarship funds and the volunteer scholarship administrators across the state who work to vet scholarship applications.

We know education has the power to improve lives. If you’re interested in establishing a scholarship fund, please reach out to your donor engagement officer or a member of our development team.

And we hope you’ll share information about our scholarships with your networks and in your community. Most NCCF scholarships close for application on March 15.
