Kayla McLoughlin from Vanceboro is the next recipient profiled in our Scholar Spotlight series. Kayla is a recipient of the New Bern Breakfast Rotary Todd Denson Memorial Scholarship. She graduated from West Craven High School and now attends Methodist University. Like many students, financial aid was a large factor in her decision about which college to attend. She is grateful that the Todd Denson Memorial Scholarship, along with other financial aid, will allow her to attend Methodist University. She likes being a part of a tight knit, small college community, and is also excited about being a member of the cheerleading team.
Kayla is a first-generation college student and was raised by a single mother who is also deaf. But these struggles have only made Kayla stronger and grateful for the opportunities she has.
“I will be forever grateful for being selected as a scholarship recipient,” she said. “This honor is so important to me that I will do everything in my power to keep this available for students in the future.”
