Elise Hines is a graduate of Edgecombe Early College High School and is attending North Carolina State University.
Hines, a recipient of the Elizabeth Braswell Sheffield Scholarship, intends to become an elementary school teacher. Her long-term goals are to return home to Edgecombe County to inspire youth and become a pillar in her community.
Hines credits her family, community, schoolteachers, and specifically Mrs. Lewis, her fourth-grade teacher, for inspiring her to become an educator.
“I want to be like Mrs. Lewis to my future students. I want them to feel the way that she made me feel and know that they are more than just a test score or letter on their report card.”
The scholarship will help Hines now, and perhaps impact her future students.
“Your generosity lightens the financial burden of college on my family. With that, I hope to one day be able to help my students achieve their goals just as you have helped me to do!”
