Double J Endowment honoring Yadkin Century Farm will impact county for years to come

Double J Farms signThe Double J Endowment was established in honor and memory of A.E. and Linda Stinson Johnson and their giving hearts. They were committed to the Boonville community, their family and their church, and the endowment is named for the Johnsons’ farm. Now designated a Century Farm by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, Double J Farms saw many crops during its more than 100 years including tobacco, grain and hogs.

A.E. and Linda were high school sweethearts, and married at the age of 19 in 1958. In 1961, A.E. was drafted into the U.S. Army and posted in West Germany. Making an adventure out of the relocation, Linda joined A.E. and they traveled throughout Europe in a Volkswagen Beetle, barely making it up the mountainous roads with their car filled with luggage and friends.

Once back in Yadkin County, A.E. focused on farming and Linda on secretarial jobs in Elkin. After 13 years of marriage, the daughter they had hoped for was born and was lovingly named Hope.

Linda and A.E. JohnsonIn addition to family and friends, their lives were enriched by the church, volunteering and community work.  A.E. loved hunting and golfing. He served as a Jaycee and on the Farm Credit board  of directors. Linda enjoyed being a Brownie leader in Boonville and did needlepoint and crochet. She was known for the baby blankets she gave as gifts.

The Johnsons left their mark not only on the farmland, but on the Boonville community to which they gave back without seeking attention. The Johnson name lives on with this endowment which will make a positive impact on Yadkin County for years to come.
