Kirby graduated from Cherryville High School in 1983 and later graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BS in pharmacy. He was a member of the pharmacy fraternity Kappa Psi, an Eagle Scout, and loved sports, especially cross country and fishing. Kirby loved spending time with his family and being involved in his children’s activities, including as a Boy Scout leader.
Kirby became the owner and pharmacist of Bowman Drug Co. in Conover in 1997 and enjoyed sharing his pharmacy knowledge with his customers and young pharmacy students. He was a pharmacy preceptor for several universities and loved supporting local business and people in the community. This scholarship was established in his memory to support future pharmacy technicians.
This fund supports the Catawba Valley Community College Foundation with providing a scholarship to a student enrolled in the school's pharmacy technician program. This scholarship may be used for tuition, program materials, and certification examination. Preference will be given to an applicant who is an Eagle Scout or who holds a similar award.
