{"tinyMCE_dummy":"","title":"Watauga County Community Foundation highlights Hunger and Health Coalition","url":"\/blog\/watauga-county-community-foundation-highlights-hunger-and-health-coalition","meta":{"title":"","description":"","excludeFromSitemap":"No"},"ordinal":999,"content":"<p><a href=\"\/communities\/northwestern\/watauga-county\">Watauga County Community Foundation<\/a> advisory board members recently visited Boone-based nonprofit Hunger and Health Coalition to learn more about their work to support individuals and families experiencing economic hardship and food shortages.<\/p>\r\n<p>WCCF has awarded almost a <a href=\"\/communities\/northwestern\/watauga-county\/grants-awarded\">dozen grants<\/a> to the organization totaling more than $30,000 in support. Projects they have supported include general operating support, food assistance, and garden beautification.<\/p>\r\n<p><img style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/nmcdn.io\/e186d21f8c7946a19faed23c3da2f0da\/7868d48393ef4e3bb7bca8cdf7bc2f20\/files\/Hunger-Health-Coalition-WCCF-2.jpg\" alt=\"WCCF board members pictured with Hunger and Health Coalition staff\" width=\"544\" height=\"408\" \/> <br \/>The Hunger and Health Coalition helps alleviate poverty by providing healthy foods, prescription medications and related services in a compassionate manner for families and individuals in need. Since its inception in 1982, the Hunger and Health Coalition goes beyond giving clients a food box &ndash; they educate their community and clients, they empower their neighbors in need, and they invest locally.<br \/><br \/>In 2023, the organization gave 12,372 boxes of food, amounting to over 100,000 pounds, to people in need.
