NC Community Foundation announces 2016 statewide Women’s Fund grants

The North Carolina Community Foundation is pleased to announce the 2016 grant recipients from the statewide Women’s Fund of North Carolina, according to Jennifer Tolle Whiteside, NCCF president and CEO. The total awarded to five organizations was $14,000.
Receiving grants are:
Benevolence Farm - Statewide (based in Alamance)
Benevolence Farm seeks to provide an opportunity for women returning from prison in NC to live and work on a sustainable farm where they grow food, nourish themselves and foster community through a social enterprise-based model.
CareNet Counseling Central Region - Located in Sandhills (serving Sandhills, Southeastern and Northern Piedmont)
The mission of CareNet Counseling is to offer hope, growth and healing through spiritually integrated counseling and professional services that are provided by licensed professionals – regardless of the client's financial circumstance.
Kids First, Inc. - Northeastern
The project goal is to reduce/eliminate trauma symptoms in child victims of abuse and/or severe neglect. Licensed specialists will provide evidence-based treatment that is proven to decrease the short- and long-term effects of trauma on the brain.
Kiran, Inc. - Located in Northern Piedmont (serving Northern Piedmont and Coastal Plain North )
Kiran is a multi-cultural, non-religious, community-based South Asian organization. It works toward raising awareness of the prevalence of domestic violence in South Asian homes through outreach and advocacy and facilitates access to community services.
The Dragonlfy House Children's Advocacy Center - Northwestern
The Dragonfly House Outreach Program provides community awareness education to schools/youth organizations as a preventative measure to educate youth / adults how to identify child abuse using tools provided by NIH, CDC, ChildHelp & Play It Safe.
The Rape Crisis Center of Coastal Horizons Center, Inc. - Southeastern
The Rape Crisis Center (RCC) offers free therapy to victims of sexual violence aimed at reducing trauma. The goal is to enhance the quality of these services by soundproofing the therapy rooms, thus making victims feel more safe and comfortable.
“Each of these organizations helps to meet crucial needs for women and children in our state and represents the program focus areas the statewide Women’s Fund supports,” Tolle Whiteside said. NCCF’s statewide Women’s Fund typically focuses on programming that supports women and/or children, with particular emphasis on women’s health and leadership issues. Programs must serve areas within NCCF’s service area.
The selection committee is comprised of representatives from most of NCCF’s local women’s giving programs from across the state. NCCF’s nine regionally based women’s giving programs include the Women’s Giving Network of Wake County; the Bertie-Hertford Women’s Fund; the Women Givers of Northeast North Carolina, which serves Camden, Gates, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties; the Currituck-Dare Woman’s Fund; the Women Givers of Nash-Rocky Mount; the Art of Giving, a collective of Triangle women sponsored in conjunction with the Triangle Community Foundation; the Women's Impact Network of New Hanover County; the Cary Women's Giving Network; and Moore Women, A Giving Circle.
