2023 John and Ruth Blue Scholarship awarded to Gwendolyn Anderson

Watauga High School student Gwendolyn Anderson was awarded the 2023 John and Ruth Blue Scholarship. She is the 22nd recipient of this scholarship, which this year awarded $6,000 and is renewable annually for up to four years.

Gwendolyn AndersonA recognized leader in school organizations and athletics, Anderson served as treasurer of the Watauga High School Student Council and captained the school’s cross country
and track teams. As president of the Sustainability Club, Anderson led efforts to obtain a grant from N.C. Green
Power to install a solar photovoltaic system at the school.
She is a member of the National Honor Society and is an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction. Anderson will attend Bates Collegein Lewiston, Maine.


The Blue Scholarship is administered by the North Carolina Community Foundation. Established in 2001 by John and
Ruth Blue, the scholarship has awarded more than $430,000 to Watauga County students and is one of the largest scholarships available in the county. Recipients are selected based on academic excellence, physical vigor and activity, and leadership in the school, church and community.
