Ashe County Community Foundation awards more than $10,000 in grants
The Ashe County Community Foundation has awarded $10,060 in grants to organizations supporting the local community.
The board of advisors granted:
- $670 to Appalachian State University for Appalachian senior programs
- $500 to the Ashe County Arts Council for the Powers of Poetry Project with Phillip Shabazz
- $700 to Ashe County High School Band Boosters Club Inc. for halftime show prop stands
- $500 to the Ashe Memorial Hospital Foundation for the Ashe Medication Assistance Program
- $500 to the Ashe Services for Aging for therapeutic raised garden beds
- $600 to Aspire Youth & Family for Kids at Work!
- $500 to Carolina Cross Connection for a home repair program
- $1,000 to Children’s Center of Surry, Inc. for Ashe County Girls Circle and Council for Boys
- $750 to Imagination Ashe for Caboose Kids
- $500 to Macon County Public Health for Double Up Food Bucks
- $840 to Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina for Fund-A-Wish in Ashe County
- $500 to the Museum of Ashe County for Veterans Hall preservation project
- $500 to the North Carolina Symphony for the Music Discovery for Ashe County preschoolers
- $2,000 to Partnership of Ashe for Planting the Seeds to Read
Funds for the grants came from ACCF’s community grantmaking fund, the Daniel Lee “Dan” Eldreth Memorial Endowment and the Melinda Hamrick Children’s Fund Endowment.
“We are proud to support these organizations because they are essential to Ashe County,” said Linda Slade, advisory board president of the Ashe County Community Foundation. “We value the generosity of those who have given to our efforts to support philanthropy in our community.”
ACCF is an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation and is led by a local volunteer advisory board. Each year, ACCF uses dollars from its endowment funds to make grants to nonprofits that help the local community.
