At the September, 2009 annual picnic of the BCHS Class of 1957, a motion was offered that we establish a scholarship fund to honor the memory of Beaver Creek High School. A committee was formed, and the Beaver Creek High School Memorial Scholarship Fund campaign was launched. Soon other BCHS alumni were involved, especially the Class of 1956. On November 30, 2009, a group of '56 and '57 class members met and completed a mailing to several hundred BCHS graduates explaining the idea and inviting them to pledge to the fund. By late February 2010, over $25,000 had been pledged and paid in, and the BCHS Memorial Scholarship Fund was formally established with the North Carolina Community Foundation.
The scholarship(s) are available to graduating seniors at Ashe County High School, West Jefferson, NC, who have been accepted as full-time students at any accredited college or university.
Qualified applicants shall have maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) during their last three years of high school, shall have demonstrated good character, and shall provide evidence of financial need.
Preference will be given, but not limited to, qualified applicants who have not received other scholarships or grants-in-aid.
Scholarships are expected to be at least $500 per year, renewable for up to 3 years with demonstrated academic success, and may be used for tuition, books, fees, and college-provided room and board.
