{"title":"Duplin Foundation for Youth Advancement offers grants","content":"<p>The Duplin Foundation for Youth Advancement&#8217;s mission is to inspire Duplin County citizens to make lasting and meaningful contributions to our community by offering grants that provide local children life-enhancing programs and character development experiences that give our youth opportunities to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Grant Cycle Dates<\/strong><br \/>The 2013 grant application cycle begins on Friday, July 5 and closes on Tuesday, August 20, 2013.&#160; The&#160;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gdg.do\/prod1\/portal\/portal.jsp?c=2169398&amp;p=2741221&amp;g=2741223\">online application<\/a>&#160;will be available beginning July 5<sup>th<\/sup>&#160;through the&#160;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nccommunityfoundation.org\">North Carolina Community Foundation website<\/a>.&#160; Grant awards are announced in September.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Grant Workshops<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>DFYA will offer two grant workshops on Tuesday, July 9 at 2:30 and 3:45 p.m. at James Sprunt Community College in Kenansville.&#160; The workshops are free, but seating is limited, so please call 910-509-7256 or&#160;<a href=\"mailto:plawler@nccommunityfoundation.org\">email Patricia Lawler<\/a>&#160;by Monday, July 8 to register.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Who Can Apply?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>501(c)3 public charities in good standing with the IRS<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Government agencies such as schools, libraries and cooperative extension offices<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Qualified religious institutions<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>DFYA Grant Application Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>We believe that all youth are worthy of our investment and can contribute positively to our community.&#160; These grants will provide local children life-enhancing programs and character development experiences that can give them the opportunity to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.<\/p>\r\n<p>Grants are available to local organizations with programs focusing on youth in Duplin County.&#160; Priority is given to proposals that incorporate a holistic approach and include&#160;one or more&#160;of the following focuses:<\/p>\r\n<p>Motivate young people to stay&#160;and&#160;succeed in school<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Foster positive youth-adult engagement through mentoring<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Strengthen gang awareness and prevention efforts<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Promote participation in philanthropy<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Provide leadership opportunities and employment skills training<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Increase the likelihood of a successful transition to adulthood<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Develop financial literacy<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Encourage engagement in community service<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Promote mental and physical health and well-being<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong><em>Please note that grants are&#160;NOT&#160;available for individuals, capital campaigns or capital improvements.&#160;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Amount Available<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Grants typically range from $500 to $5,000.&#160;<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Contact<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"mailto:plawler@nccommunityfoundation.org\">Email Patricia Lawler<\/a>, Regional Associate, NC Community Foundation, or call 910-509-7256<a href=\"mailto:plawler@nccommunityfoundation.org\"><\/a>.<\/p>","excerpt":"<p><span>The Duplin Foundation for Youth Advancement awards more than $29,000 to local youth initiatives.<\/span><\/p>","url":"\/news\/duplin-foundation-for-youth-advancement-offers-grants","publishedAt":1372434900,"media":0,"enableComments":false,"inMenu":false,"meta":null,"ordinal":0,"orderChildrenBy":"","id":"1d3d5b52f593407ea7cc65a35c5e2597","parent":"31bc018cb0694068b20999237c54f462","node":60846,"created":1382630495,"modified":1556820693,"fresh":1,"type":"post","children":{},"relations":{"category":[{"title":"Duplin County Community Foundation","source":null,"url":"\/categories\/communities\/southeastern\/duplin-county-community-foundation","content":"","inMenu":false,"publishedAt":1536247988,"meta":{"title":"","description":"","excludeFromSitemap":"No"},"ordinal":0,"orderChildrenBy":"","permission":"write","tinyMCE_dummy":"","excerpt":"","media":"0","visibleTo":"Everyone","id":"8b10178aa81a4183abfe603576b39e50","parent":"94055cb567834e6086e95b65a88d3147","node":20889,"created":1533158896,"modified":1536247989,"fresh":1,"type":"f9a6b2b005cb46ed8778f11c37e4d3a5","children":{}}]},"permission":"read"}
