The Montgomery County Fund awarded a $5,000 grant to Page Street Elementary for a program called “Rachel’s Challenge,” which has really made a difference for the students, according to the principal and teachers.
Affiliate board members learned this first-hand at a recent school board meeting where a presentation about the program began with an expression of heartfelt appreciation for the Montgomery Fund grant. “Without this grant, we could not have done the program, and we are really grateful to the Montgomery Fund,” said the teacher updating the school board.
The program encourages students to be positive in their interactions with each other through a variety of lessons and activities including videos and positive reinforcement. The principal said the school’s disciplinary problems have dropped dramatically.
