A Cleaner Creek, a Stronger Community

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, more than 140 tons of logs and debris clogged the waterway known as Lyle Creek. But thanks to an incredible effort powered by Conover Community Partners (volunteers pictured above clearing the creek), what was once a blocked channel is now a flowing, restored stream—and the difference is astonishing.

Thanks in part to a $25,000 grant from the North Carolina Community Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund – the funding recommendation coming from the Catawba Valley Community Foundation – the Lyle Creek cleanup project has been a spectacular success. Volunteers, along with the expertise of Redline Dirtworks – who led the project at a fraction of the original cost, cleared thousands of feet of creek in short order.

The benefits the clean-up include: Cleaner water, restored stormwater flow, reduced flooding risk, healthier habitats, altogether supporting the vibrant City of Conover.

The Conover Community Partners are a conglomerate of local businesses and neighbors coming together to build a safer, more connected, more vibrant Conover.
