The Children’s Playhouse provides support for High Country parents and caregivers
The Watauga County Community Foundation recently visited the Children’s Playhouse. The nonprofit, located in Boone, provides educational fun for kids and friendly support for parents.
WCCF is a longtime supporter of the Children’s Playhouse which has received 16 grants from the affiliate foundation’s community grantmaking program, totaling more than $25,000.
Since its start in 2002, the Playhouse has supported parents and caregivers as an informal “town square” of the High Country. From all walks of life, the organization welcomes the eager and the timid, young and aged, local and out-of-towners to share together the joy of playful learning with their children.
As the only children’s museum based in the High Country, the Playhouse provides exciting STEM activities for children, imaginative play areas and exhibits, and educational resources for parents. The facility is open year-round. Children birth to 8 years old can enjoy hands-on play, with the financial barrier largely lifted thanks to charitable financial support.
The Playhouse continues to be an anchor in the community growing inquisitive minds with stimulating activities whether it be messy (and beautiful) painting, curious exploration, or simply dress-up.
