Kathleen Morrissey Klutey Memorial Scholarship accepting applications for second year

The Lenoir County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications for the Kathleen Morrissey Klutey Memorial Scholarship Fund for the second year. The merit scholarship has been established for graduating seniors at South Lenoir High School, Kinston High School and North Lenoir High School.

The scholarship is named for Kathleen M. Klutey, who worked as a guidance counselor at South Lenoir High School for 21 years. Klutey consistently encouraged her students to aim high and consider a broader range of schools when applying to college.

The scholarship provides a one-time grant of $5,000 for the selected recipient to apply towards educational expenses at a four-year college or university.

Recipients will be chosen based on exceptional academic performance while taking a rigorous course load, including advanced placement and other honors classes. Additional criteria include significant involvement in extracurricular activities such as athletics or the arts.

The Kathleen Morrissey Klutey Memorial Scholarship is administered by the North Carolina Community Foundation in association with the Lenoir County Community Foundation. Applications can be found online here, under Lenoir County. Additional information is available from Lenoir County high school guidance counselors. Students should read the instructions carefully and complete all requirements required for the application packet.  The application deadline for all scholarship applications is Saturday, March 25, 2017.
