New scholarship to support Harnett County students

A new scholarship fund has been established at the North Carolina Community Foundation to benefit graduates of Harnett County high schools seeking higher education.

The Jack C. Wells Scholarship for Harnett County is available to county residents with a preference for students from the townships of Black River, Grove and Neill’s Creek. Eligible students must be attending a two- or four-year college, university or technical school.

The first scholarship will be awarded this spring. A total of $50,000 is available for scholarship awards. The scholarship is renewable for up to three additional years, as long as students remain enrolled at their educational institution.

Wells created the scholarship to provide students with more than just tuition, recognizing that the cost of education extends well beyond that.

In partnership with donors and fundholders, NCCF offers scholarships for students from all 100 counties. There is no cost for students to apply for scholarships. NCCF has more than two dozen scholarships open to students in Harnett County and statewide.

As eligibility criteria vary greatly, students are encouraged to complete NCCF’s Universal Scholarships Application to be matched with scholarships they are eligible for. Detailed instructions about how to apply are available at nccommunityfoundation.org/Scholarships. Students can apply now through March 3 at 11:59 p.m.
