Onslow Caring Communities Foundation awards more than $100,000 in grants
The Onslow Caring Communities Foundation, a North Carolina Community Foundation affiliate, has awarded $102,700 in grants to organizations supporting the local community.
The board of advisors granted:
- $1,500 to BackPack Friends for general operating support (for Onslow County residents)
- $5,000 to Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern North Carolina for Project Learn – Onslow
- $1,000 to Camp Lejeune Leadership Seminar (CLLS) for fall 2024 leadership seminar
- $4,500 to Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas for Caring Onslow Childhood Cancer Safety Net
- $1,500 to Children’s Museum of Jacksonville for museum professional development
- $5,000 to Feline Rescue in the Ferry for 360-degree holistic care
- $2,500 to Hope Is Alive for Winning with Wellness
- $5,000 to Jaded Paws for pet food pantry
- $1,500 to Mediation Center of Eastern Carolina – Duplin for Onslow Teen Court
- $10,000 to Onslow County Partners for Animal Welfare, Inc. for PawsAbility Spay/Neuter program
- $2,000 to Onslow Literacy Council, Inc. for 2024 technology upgrade
- $2,790 to Overflow Café NC for Blessing Shed, serving hundreds monthly
- $11,410 to Paws 4 Purpose for 2024 Intake Diversion and Heart Healthy (for Onslow County residents)
- $20,000 to Possumwood Acres Wildlife Sanctuary for ensuring ENC wildlife for kids – for life
- $1,500 to Share the Table for expanding fresh and nutritious food access
- $7,000 to Sturgeon City of Jacksonville, NC, for Sturgeon City STEM and environmental education programs
- $1,500 to The Salvation Army of Jacksonville for Bucket Brigade
- $1,500 to United Way of Onslow County for general operating support of volunteer center
- $2,000 to United Way of Onslow County for CHEW (Children Healthy Eating on Weekends) purchase of donation shed
- $3,000 to Voices Together for VOICSS® in Education – Onslow County Schools
- $2,500 to Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry, Inc. for preserving affordable housing and building community assets
Funds for 2024 grants came from OCCF’s community grantmaking fund, the Onslow County Youth Fund and the Dallas Fred Allen Endowment.
This year, the OCCF advisory board invested an additional $9,000 from the Dallas Fred Allen Endowment to provide training, support and resources for the leaders of several Onslow County animal welfare nonprofits to address their specific challenges and opportunities. The Dallas Fred Allen Endowment supports organizations with services and programs focused on the humane treatment of animals and animal welfare.

“We believe these organizations are evidence of the strength and resilience of our community, and we are proud to support them,” said Susan Stevenson, advisory board president of the Onslow Caring Communities Foundation. “That’s why we’ve also funded training for the dedicated leaders of some of our animal welfare nonprofits to support them through the unique circumstances these organizations often face.”
Each year, OCCF’s volunteer advisory board uses dollars from its endowment funds to make grants to eligible community organizations, including nonprofits, local governments, schools and churches.
