Helene Response Resources for Nonprofits
The NCCF Disaster Relief Fund will provide grants to eligible organizations in areas impacted by Hurricane Helene to address long-term recovery and unmet needs.
NCCF is not awarding grants at this time, but opportunities from other organizations are listed below.

Opportunities for immediate relief funding for nonprofits

The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina’s Emergency and Disaster Response Fund is funding organizations providing emergency relief to those affected by Hurricane Helene. Initially, $25,000 grants will be awarded to organizations on a rolling basis.
Grant requests should be for frontline human service needs. They are intended to cover the extraordinary costs of providing emergency relief services to individuals or eligible organizations affected by the storm. Eligible organizations must be serving the following counties and areas: Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, and Yancey counties, including the Qualla Boundary. Dogwood announced an initial $30 million in relief funding as part of its Hurricane Helene response. Organizations including The Community Foundation for Western North Carolina, Impact Health, AMY Wellness Foundation, Gateway Wellness Foundation and WNC Communities are helping redistribute and regrant Dogwood’s initial relief funding. Please use this guidance on which organization to approach:
- If your organization is part of Impact Health’s Health Service Organization (HSO) network, you will receive an application directly from Impact Health about support.
- If your organization is in Avery, Mitchell or Yancey counties doing on-the-ground relief efforts, please reach out to AMY Wellness Foundation.
- If your organization is in Burke, McDowell, Polk and Rutherford counties, please inquire with the Gateway Wellness Foundation about relief grants.
- If your organization is a member of WNC Communities, please reach out to them via their website. Their phones are not yet operational.
Golden LEAF is making resources available to organizations supporting immediate relief for individuals and families including home repair, addressing unmet needs, and helping transition out of FEMA-supported housing programs. Governmental entities and 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofits are eligible to apply. Funds may not be used to support businesses. At this time, Golden LEAF expects most awards will not to exceed $100,000. Learn more and apply online.
Organizations working across a large region or that are experienced North Carolina-based Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters deploying to disaster-declared communities, should contact Golden LEAF at Helene@GoldenLEAF.org to discuss the possibility of a larger award.
The North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund will help provide for immediate unmet needs through reimbursements to nonprofits working with disaster survivors. Eligible groups include any 501(c)(3) agency with a valid charitable solicitation license that is assisting Hurricane Helene-impacted communities with immediate needs. If your organization is eligible, please complete the short application to request a grant for up to $10,000.
