Madison Brown

Madison Brown is a recipient of the F.H. “Sammy” Ross Jr. and Gary “GJ” Johnston Memorial Scholarship. Originally from Boone, Brown is a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and is studying to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

Brown hopes to use her nurse anesthesia educational preparation to eliminate health disparities in underserved populations, recognizing the socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic disparities in current anesthesia practice. More specifically, her goal is to advocate for and provide culturally competent, patient-centered anesthesia services in rural and low-income areas where such care is often limited or unavailable. By increasing access to surgical and procedural interventions in these settings, she hopes to improve health outcomes, promote equity, and contribute to a more just healthcare system.

Brown said that watching her family make sacrifices to ensure she had opportunities
instilled in her a strong sense of responsibility and motivation to succeed.

“Becoming a CRNA represents more than just a professional goal, it is a way to create a better future, not only for myself but for the patients and communities I will serve. The obstacles I faced growing up have made me more empathetic, driven, and committed to excellence, and they continue to inspire me to work hard and make the most of every opportunity.”
