$500,000 available for eastern NC organizations through the NC Community Foundation
Charitable organizations in eastern North Carolina supporting education, health and human services can apply for grants from the Louise Oriole Burevitch Endowment beginning July 3.
The endowment, which is a fund of the North Carolina Community Foundation, expects to provide a total of $500,000 in funding this year. Grants will range from $25,000 to $50,000.
“Mrs. Burevitch’s love of eastern North Carolina has resulted in a lasting support for communities,” said Jennifer Tolle Whiteside, NCCF President & CEO. “We encourage organizations supporting education, health or human services in the region to apply.”
2026 marks the endowment’s ninth annual application-based cycle, which supports eligible organizations in 41 eastern North Carolina counties: Beaufort, Bertie, Bladen, Brunswick, Camden, Carteret, Chowan, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Currituck, Dare, Duplin, Edgecombe, Gates, Greene, Halifax, Harnett, Hertford, Hoke, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Nash, New Hanover, Northampton, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Pender, Perquimans, Pitt, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, Tyrrell, Washington, Wayne and Wilson.
Starting this year, the Burevitch Endowment will also accept applications from local, state and federal government entities in the 41 counties.
Interested applicants can review full details at nccommunityfoundation.org/Burevitch, including eligibility guidelines and information on how to apply through NCCF’s Grant Application Portal.
Grant proposals must focus on education, health, or human services. There will be some preference given to grant proposals that benefit women, children and youth, or older adults, or programs that serve southeastern North Carolina.
Grant applications will be accepted from July 3 until noon on Aug. 4. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
Grants from the endowment are made to organizations through this application-based program and to nonprofits that were designated by Burevitch. In total, the endowment has awarded nearly $11 million since it was established in 2015. Learn more about previous grant recipients.
“Mrs. B,” as Burevitch was known to her friends, was a Wilmington native whose generosity was well-known in southeastern North Carolina and beyond. After Burevitch passed away in September 2014 she left behind a fortune that few knew she possessed. Her charitable giving was motivated by her generous nature and concern for the welfare of people and animals. Learn more about her philanthropy.
