Alleghany County Community Foundation awards more than $23,000 in grants
The Alleghany County Community Foundation, a North Carolina Community Foundation affiliate, has awarded $23,330 in grants to 10 organizations supporting the local community.
The board of advisors granted:
- $1,460 to Alleghany Arts Council for Creative Appalachian Skills and Traditions Camp (C.A.S.T.)
- $4,500 to Alleghany Council on Aging for Senior Climate and Utility Crisis Program
- $1,000 to Alleghany High School Career and Technical Education for Exploring Careers in Healthcare: Engaging students to discover their interests
- $1,000 to Appalachian State University for Appalachian Senior Programs
- $5,000 to Blue Ridge Developmental Day for general operating support
- $870 to New River Conservancy for New River Headwaters Volunteer Network
- $2,000 to New River Cooperative Parish for Nourish & Neighbor Rural Food Initiative
- $1,500 to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC for Feeding Community in Alleghany County: Partner Agency Support
- $2,000 to Sparta United Methodist Church for Appetite for Abundance
- $4,000 to Sparta United Methodist Church for Grace Kitchen
“Communities like ours thrive when the nonprofits and local organizations serving them have sustained support. We’re proud to support these organizations serving Alleghany County,” said Christopher Johnson, advisory board president of the Alleghany County Community Foundation.
Funds for 2026 grants came from ACCF’s community grantmaking fund. Each year, ACCF’s advisory board uses dollars from its endowment fund to make grants to eligible local organizations, including nonprofits, local governments, schools and churches.

Alleghany County Community Foundation Advisory Board Members
Founded in 1993, ACCF is led by a local volunteer advisory board that understands community needs. In addition to Johnson, board members include Rachel Arnold (vice president), April Maines (secretary), Meghan Norris (treasurer), Heather Andrews, Zach Barricklow, Lisa Bottomley, Gerson Cuevas, Molly Dubose, Terry Edwards, Susie Gambill, Whitney Ivey, Brett Liverman and John Porta.
